Most courses are a tee time. Tanglewood is a range, eighteen holes, a bar on the course, dinner on the deck over holes 10 and 18, and a band to finish, in that order if you like.

The course

Tanglewood closed in the fall of 2019. New ownership bought it in January 2023 and brought it back the slow way: greens rebuilt, fairways restored, and golf reopened in July 2024 on a course regulars now call some of the best conditions in the Chippewa Valley.

It plays rustic and woodsy, tight in the trees and honest off the tee. GPS carts keep the round moving, and the Shank Shack keeps it civil.

Toptracer is now free with every bucket. Starting in 2027, buy balls at either ball machine, grab any open Toptracer bay, and play. No bay rental, no extra charge.

Our story

Wallskog, the hospitality veteran behind Heartwood Resort & Conference Center in Trego, bought the course in January 2023, three years after it closed, and restored it the proper way. Wood & Vine, the event center and the range opened in June 2023, and golf came back in July 2024.

How do I book a tee time?
Tee times are booked online through Tee Snap, our live booking system, up to seven days ahead. Further out than that, call the pro shop at (715) 440-3650 and we will hold your date.
Do I need to golf to visit Wood & Vine?
Not at all. Wood & Vine is a full restaurant and bar open to everyone, golfer or not, with a big deck overlooking holes 10 and 18 and a fish fry on Fridays. In season the kitchen opens at 11 every day and there is live music on the deck some evenings; in winter Wood & Vine is open Tuesday through Saturday, lunch from 11 and dinner until 8 (Fridays until 9), with group dining for holiday parties of up to 50.
What is the Toptracer Range?
Toptracer is the ball-tracking technology used on TV golf broadcasts. We have the only Toptracer Range in the Chippewa Valley: nine Toptracer bays that trace every shot and report carry, speed and flight, plus nine standard bays. Starting in 2027 the bay is free with any bucket: buy balls at either ball machine, take any open bay, and play. Groups can reserve bays online for free.
Can beginners play the course?
Yes. Tanglewood rewards a straight ball more than a long one, every cart has GPS to help you pick a target, and youth 11 and under play free with a paid adult. Golf lessons are available from Jeromy Prosser, who teaches through his own business, and the Toptracer Range is a low-pressure place to start.
How far in advance should we ask about weddings and events?
As early as you can. The event center is a three-season space, open May to October, and the wedding calendar is kept intentionally limited so each couple gets the full attention of the team. Corporate retreats and golf outings have more flexibility. Reach out and we will talk through it.
